Snowboarding!

My favourite hobby is snowboarding. I haven't been snowboarding for very long, three winters to be exact. Honestly, I'm not very good at it. Even though I'm no professional snowboarder, I still enjoy it no matter how many times I fall down. Before I started snowboarding, I was actually pretty good at skiing. I liked skiing, and I wish I continued skiing alongside snowboarding because I could have gotten enough experience to teach ski lessons. Eventually I would like to get skis in addition to my snowboard so I can use whichever anytime I want.
I remember it was during the last winter Olympics that I first became interested in snowboarding. I saw the athletes on the TV and it interested me so much I wanted to try it for myself. Soon after that, I bought a second hand snowboard and some boots. I debated not taking a lesson and just going for it. But I figured that one lesson couldn't hurt. So I took one, and I was the oldest in the lesson by five years. To sat the least, it did not come naturally to me. With skiing you have so much control from the start. With snowboarding it was harder for me to find that balance and control. Despite the ridiculous amount of times I fell down, I still had fun and wanted to go back. As I mentioned previously, I was not very good at it at first. But there were moments on the hill, when I wasn't falling on my butt, that were so freeing. There is something so calming about snowboarding once you get the hang of it. The turning back and forth with the wind against your face just feels so nice. I was surprised by this because calm is not the first adjective that came to my mind previous to snowboarding.
This past season was actually really exciting for me, despite the abrupt end. I didn't take any lessons but I was able to go on different runs, the number of times I fell was countable on my fingers. I was able to turn repeatedly without losing my balance, which doesn't sound very impressive, but it was a big deal for me. I felt like I was finally getting truly good at it. My best day was actually the last day the mountain was open, unbeknownst to me. I went up in the morning and the following afternoon, about half an hour after returning home, I found out the mountain was closing the following day. It sucked because I was really getting the hang of it. It wasn't much longer before I found out that our spring break ski trip with our friends was also cancelled due to the virus. I wasn't surprised, but I was bummed. It was going to be the first ski trip I've been on and I was really excited. Regardless of the disappointment, I still enjoyed the season and I look forward to the next ones to come.
